Welcome to day six of a daily email rewrite experiment.
To quote from day 1 “Every day for the next week I will send out a daily email. Then the following week, every day I will send a rewrite of the email from 7 days ago. I am not sure how long I will do this… I’m going to try for a month.”
I planted a garden during covid. Right now I can see the beginnings of corn, watermelon, cucumber. The tomatoes are starting to come in. I put some fresh shishito and sage in my breakfast eggs.
My kale is in bad shape. I did not know it was possible to not grow kale. Apparently the cause of this is the cabbage moth. I was in the garden looking at the beautiful white butterflies and my son said it was a moth. Well is it a moth or a butterfly?
I sort of was hoping for a butterfly. Although I did a deep Moth deep dive care incredibly diverse. Some adult moths don’t eat and don’t even have mouths! Some moths have incredible powers of camouflage to look like other insects or bird droppings. This is the cabbage moth that I suspected of damaging the kale. Look how fuzzy it is compared to the butterfly.
But I was sort of convinced it was a butterfly. Moths I hear are nocturnal and I saw these insects in the day. Moths rest with their wings splayed out and butterflies fold their wings, but I do not remember exactly what the creatures I saw did.
I also saw a garder snake. I used to think these were called garden snakes, but no apparently the name is garder as in garter belt to describe the stripes on the snake’s body. This is what it looked like.
Apparently they are harmless.
“When this type of snake meaning shows up, it is an indication that you are now entering a highly creative period in your life. Thus you should be initiating and acting on as many ideas as possible. Do this even if it seems that these actions are premature. The percentages are with you at this time.”
I found a website of 9 snakes mythologies.
This is from a Chinese opera about the Legend of the White Snake.
White butterflies also have symbolism. I have a tattoo of bees, and I want to get a butterfly tattoo, although I’ll probably have to wait a while. Perhaps I should add to that a garter snake, and perhaps some cardinals, a chipmunk, a squirrel, and then some blackbirds, wren, and a raven. These are the animals that have kept me company during this time. Thinking about the symbolism of the bee and the symbolism of the butterfly helps me accept my personal nature as landing on many different fragrant and beautiful things, cross pollenating and the flying away. That is the purpose I serve right now. I am not a beaver building a dam, or even a bird building a nest.
I listened to this video posted today in one of my community discords of how Philip K Dick had visionary experiences and how he interpreted these experiences not of past lives but as parallel lives, as glimpses of parallel universes.
This reminds me of the question of how to interpret UFO phenomena. Now we interpret them as alien ships, in the past perhaps we would have interpreted them as visitations from an angel. How might we interpret the parallel universe phenomena in the future. This is a concept that is new, that did not exist prior to the discovery of quantum physics.
The imaginal world, The Mundus Imaginalis, is considered real. Visionary experiences are an experience of this real world. Philip K Dick is expressing that his experiences, his stories, are visionary experiences as well of real worlds, real parallel universes. People who experience past lives, have real experiences of these worlds. What are all these worlds? What is it to be real?
This is R Crumb’s illustration of Philip K Dick’s experience of God.
Till tomorrow, that will be the last of the original newsletters before the rewrites.
